Formaldehyde Vapor Monitor
Almost all homes and offices have formaldehyde vapor. It is associated with wood products and with fabric coatings.
Recommended Indoor Air Formaldehyde Exposure Limits
The EPA and The American Lung Association :
Maximum safe level : 0.1 ppm.
The Agency for Toxic Substances; Disease Registry (ATSDR):
Minimal Risk Levels (MRL) : 0.04 ppm (1-14 days exposure)
Intermediate Duration MRL : 0.03 ppm (> 14 – 364 days exposure)
Chronic Duration MRL : 0.008 PPM (365 or more days exposure)
Some people may be sensitive to lower levels. ACS Formaldehyde Vapor Monitor (Cat. No. F-50) will measure below 0.005 ppm. (Less than 5 parts per billion) (Note: Acetaldehyde can also be measured simultaneously.)
Sources of Formaldehyde:
Formaldehyde is used in building materials such as pressed wood products (hardwood plywood wall paneling, particleboard, fiberboard) and furniture made with these pressed wood products. Urea-formaldehyde foam insulation (UFFI). Combustion sources and environmental tobacco smoke. Durable press drapes, other textiles, and glues.
Health Effects of Formaldehyde:
Formaldehyde, a colorless, pungent-smelling gas, can cause watery eyes, burning sensations in the eyes and throat, nausea, and difficulty in breathing in some humans
Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene, Xylene + Saturated Hydrocarbons Test Kit
This monitor will measure the actual concentration of petroleum-based solvents such as benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, xylene and hydrocarbons in the series from pentane to docdecane.
